Journey: The most stunning lakes in the Great Rift Valley

The most stunning lakes in the Great Rift Valley

This region is home to three vastly different parks, Hell’s Gate National Park is just a few minutes from Naivasha and is a scenic landscape that was the inspiration behind Disney’s film The Lion King. A few minutes away is the Longonot National Park and home of Mount Longonot, a stratovolcano, which towers across the landscape. Its name is derived from the Maasai word Oloonong'ot, meaning "mountains of many spurs" or "steep ridges".

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s wildlife dense protected areas and is home to the Big Five including both black and white rhino with the beautiful lake providing a perfect backdrop.

information

Lake Nakuru is situated approximately 5755 feet above sea level. It lies south of Nakuru town in the Rift Valley of Kenya and is protected by Lake Nakuru National Park. The lake's abundance of algae attracts a vast quantity of flamingos that famously line the shore.

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County which lies approximately 96km north west of Nairobi. The name derives from the local Maasai name Nai'posha, meaning "rough water" because of the sudden storms which can arise.

Featured testimonial

Lake Naivasha is a haven for birds and hippos. We took a boat tour with an expert guide who put us right on the birds, over 40 species. Plus, we got a good look at several hippos.
